Debunking the Watchtower - Slam Dunks and Solid Arguments
by Nickolas inthere's a wide cross section of thinkers on this board, representing christian belief and non-belief and points in between, the agnostics.
there is most definitely a minority, mostly silent, of devoted jehovah's witnesses present, too, but their contribution to the dialogue and dynamic of the board is minimal.
that small minority aside, it can be said the people who venture into here to communicate with one another share a common paradigm, and that is the watchtower is built on a foundation of clay.

Nickolas, not sure exactly of your personal situation; haven't read all of your previous posts; I just know your wife is in and you are not. For what it's worth, my past experience has been that 'divided household Witnesses' thrive on the divided household thing, and the more you are seen as the 'persecutor', the more 'righteous' they have to remain...so not sure if that's the scenario in your household or not.
But if so, feign genuine interest, start reading the magazines, maybe highlight with a very colourful highlighter all the 'evidentlys' or 'seems to indicate' or 'thus it can be inferred'...leave them laying around the house for her to 'tidy up'; maybe point out that youve just realized all of these articles seem to be written anonymously; doesn't anybody want to take ownership of what they're writing? - when she points out they don't want creature worship therefore no names (!) CRAZY I KNOW!, tell her how absolutely ludicrous that sounds. I think most Witnesses these days understand that nobody gets WORSHIP because of articles they write, but that is supposedly the reason these articles are all written anonymously. So really you're not attacking doctrines per se, just the modus operandi of the outfit.
I grew up in a divided household. My agnostic parent used to always comment on how every article seemed to end by saying Why not join the witnesses at their next meeting?, or why not start a Bible study? blah, blah and he said in that sense, the whole magazine was ADVERTISEMENT for the religion! I never forgot that and now, I really see the point!
Just my 2c I agree with you in that once you see this organization for what it really is - A MENTAL PRISON - you really have a desire to open the gates and bars for any trapped within.

he writes with a good dose of humor which usually helps get his point across.. the blog post dissects the latest gallup poll results regarding 40% of americans believe in biblical creationism.
but the point i found interesting in it was that if you don't believe the genesis account is literal....then jesus atoned for the sin of a fictitious character, adam.. here is a quote from the blog...but please give the whole thing a read, makes more sense that way:.

Elder knocks on my door... couldn't see who it was and I opened it...
by Soldier77 inso an elder came to my door the other day in field circus.
i looked through the peephole to see who it was, but the way the door is situated against the sky in the background i couldn't see anything but a silhouette.
not to mention he was standing off to the side so to make it hard for anyone to see who was knocking.. so i open the door thinking it was my friend since he is the only jw that knows where i live.

He then relates to me his situation with his son and that his son is going through very similar victimization by the WTS with hsi ex-wife yadda yadda. In fact, he did most of the talking from that point and at the end he told me that he was putting together a letter to the society about the abuse that I've been put through for years by the elders and they way they manipulate the outcome of the JC rulings.
From the above, I think he just wants to use you and your situation to bolster his own case....that's the cynic in me speaking. If he really wanted to help YOU, he would have been there for YOU before this issue in his own family came along...he hopes there will be strength in numbers, but if so, he's sadly mistaken when it comes to the leadership of this outfit. All they care about is the face they put out to the world - shameless PR, nothing more.

Might warp his mind a little! - the Beroeans actually searched the scriptures (which would be the Hebrew scriptures) and unknown to most dubs, even they weren't put into a canon until about 100 or 200 A.D.!
Most dubs just picture the Beroeans as a little congregation somewhat like their own where everybody looks up the scripture that the speaker cites - very anachronistic. It is unfortunate that most dubs have little appreciation of history, and since the pictures in the WT are warped to impress that kind of image on their minds, they fall for it hook, line and sinker. They probably picture the Beroeans having a WT study!

If 'The Bible' is truly God's Word (John 17:17 - your Word is truth), why did God suddenly need Watchtower/Awake magazines as supplements to that Word in the late 1800's? Prior to the printing press being discovered, I guess he didn't much care whether the 'truth' was accessible to the masses, but Gutenberg sped up his agenda, I guess.
The Beroeans didn't have Bibles as we have come to know them. They probably didn't have scrolls either. Probably just checked out what they heard orally, but that would be a good topic for research for your brother! When exactly did the Beroeans live? At the time Paul wrote his letters? The Gospels weren't even around then; they were written at least 20 - 30 years later...your brother needs to research the actual history of the BIBLE!

Circuit Assembly Cancelled - AGAIN
by St George of England init should have been our ca tomorrow and sunday but it has been cancelled because of the weather.
we had a light sprinkling of snow today but it has frozen and the roads around hayes bridge are treacherous.. the ca two weeks ago was cancelled for the same reason and some of those congregations were scheduled to join us this weekend.. guess i will just have to have a lie in this weekend!.

AGuest - Very sad, that I personally know of a sister killed on the way to a meeting on a snowy night...probably not an isolated case...
It sure seems to take them a long time to put 2 and 2 together and come up with 4 and then make adjustments...usually money has to be involved (liability) SAD SAD SAD...
